CNA Training Program

The Coke County Nurse Aide Training Program provides a minimum of 100 clock hours of classroom and hands-on training and teaches the Texas Department of Aging and Disability Services (DADS) established curriculum, including:  

  • At least 16 introductory hours of training in the following areas before direct client contact: 
    • communication and interpersonal skills;
    • infection control;
    • safety and emergency procedures, including the Heimlich maneuver
    • promoting residents' independence; and
    • respecting residents' rights.
  • Personal care skills.
  • Basic nursing skills.
  • Mental health and social service needs.
  • Care of cognitively impaired residents.
  • Basic restorative services.
  • Residents' rights.

Prerequisites

All applicants will be required to submit to background screens and drug screening.  

Applicants found to be listed on the Employee Misconduct Registry, or who are listed on the Nurse Aide Registry in "revoked" status, or who have a criminal history that would bar employment in a DADS-licensed facility or agency are prohibited from enrolling in a nurse aide training program.  

If an applicant does not pass the drug screen, they are not eligible to be accepted into the course.

Proof of required immunizations must be verified before student will be allowed to begin the course.  Immunizations include Tetanus Diptheria Pertussis (TDAP), Measles (MMR), Varicella, and Flu Shot.  PPD Skin Test (TB Test) will be administered during the first day of class.  Hepatitis B Series is recommended for anyone working in a healthcare setting, but is not required for this course.

Physical requirements:  Ability to use up to 100 pounds of force occasionally, up to 50 pounds of force frequently, and 10 pounds of force continuously to move objects and people.  Ability to bend, stoop, twist, turn, reach, lift, carry, pull, push, climb, kneel, walk, and stand for an extended time.
